If you haven't picked up on it, I'm trying to do a drawing a day for November. Mostly because I don't have the energy/brain power to pursue NaNoWriMo and I felt like I needed to draw more. So. 30 days only equals 30,000 words (if you think picture=1000 words) but that's still a lot of drawing for me in one month.

Six days in, they obviously vary in quality and content but I'm feeling good about it? So that's good.
Hello everyone!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the ONE convention I go to these days, Kuroneko-con. It's a local con (for me) run by some very cool people I know, so if you're in the area on the first weekend in August GO TO THERE. I know last year I met a bunch of cool artists from near and far and I hope to see a lot of you again!

I'll have prints/posters for sale as well as buttons and MAGNETS (really excited about the magnets). Stuff left over from previous conventions will be available at a massive discount as well. So please stop by and say 'hi!' and I'll try not to be all flustered and anti-social (key word: try).

Thank you followers new and old and people who pop in on their way to other art. I appreciate you all!

P.S. I'm posting sneak previews of some of the things I'll be selling on my TUMBLR periodically.

If you weren't aware, the short comic I was working on a few months ago finally came out

Oh. And I got married on November 15th. Which means I won't be quite as dead to the world anymore. Yay!

As usual, I update my TUMBLR way more often than I do here. So if you're really curious what I'm up to (usually playing way too many video games) you can check that out. Otherwise, carry on my good people.

If you're wondering why I suddenly dropped off the face of the earth, it's because I started drawing COMICS. I started working with Grey Carter, writer of Critical Miss www.escapistmagazine.com/artic… on a short, Thane-centric Mass Effect comic that should be out soon. I also did a couple guest comics for CM: www.escapistmagazine.com/artic… and www.escapistmagazine.com/artic… .

Currently working doing photo retouching at a local studio and getting ready for our WEDDING. So. Busy! I hope to draw a lot more soon and post more stuff and write and stuff but... I also hope for world peace, so. It may be a little while.

I'll be at Kuroneko-con's artist alley again this year. Selling buttons, posters and bookmarks.

Most of it will be fanart of some sort, but I have a question:

What original characters/pictures (if they're up here already) do you think would make cool posters, buttons or bookmarks?

I don't know how to sell original character stuff I guess. :P

Hey, guys. I'm closing commissions for a while until I feel confident enough to do them again. At the moment, I need to work on some personal stuff. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

If you've contacted me recently about commissions, I'll try to get back to you soon.

It's my last few hours of premium membership - so I'm going to make a new journal!

I recently posted on Tumblr and here about a Christmas sale on bust commissions. I've actually gotten quite a few people asking about it, and I am working on them as fast as possible. :D I actually have a few emails and notes I need to reply to at the moment...

I've also decided to stop using Paypal (because even after years of using it, they still manage to surprise me in unpleasant ways.) I'm looking for alternatives (leaning toward "amazon Payments" at the moment). Once I find one I'll update all my information.

In the meantime I am accepting commissions through Guild Wars 2 and Vindictus in-game or cash-shop moneys.

Anyone playing/would like to play with me? It's way more fun to play together! My sylvari Mesmer is level 22, and looking for people who'd like help with their story or just want to explore.

I'm on Stormbluff Isle, but don't let being on a different server keep us from being buddies! Note me and we can exchange usernames. :D

Kuro Neko-Con Artists!

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 7, 2012, 11:07 AM

Commissions are: OPEN

I wanted to direct your attention to some of the awesome artists I shared a room with this weekend.

If you see these people at other conventions, stop by and check them out! (Like, check their stuff out - I'm not giving you permission to perv on artists. Disclaimer.)

Let's start with my neighbors!

:iconsuikasen: was to my right. She draws fantastically cute stuff, you guys. I can't even describe how much I was just like, "Sooo cuuuute."

For serious: Touhou Chibi Stickers FOR SALE by Suikasen

She had so many chibis, and did chibi commissions! (I got a little keychain of Naitlya, because I could not resist.) Also, I didn't know what Touhou was before this weekend, but I may have to find out so I can buy more stuff next time.

:iconotomepeach: was to my left. She has a very cool style and is just all around good at life.

Seriously. I wish I was that good at this stuff at 17. Adventure Time, Hetalia, Korra and more? A lady after my own heart.

:iconcrossexe: and :iconviolatown: were a few tables down. I oggled their stuff from my seat a lot just because they both have gorgeous and interesting styles. They also had the most variety of keychain characters I've ever seen...

:thumb261757429:

I also saw stuff from :iconmystaira:, :icontorikat: (who have both done the yearly Kuroneko mascot) and :icontetsumiro:.

Winter's Peak by Mystaira Sakura-Con 2012 Commissions by torikat Banner: Salem by Tetsumiro

There were also several people who didn't have cards/websites/I didn't get to stalk quite as much. If you were one of those people, you're awesome too!

A good year at the con. Every year right before it starts and I'm stressing out, I'm like, "NEVAH AGAIN" and then I sit there and chat with nerdy people and draw and I'm like, "Of course I'll do it again."

Derp.

Got back from the first half of this year's Kuro Neko-con. kuronekocon.com/

SO TIRED. But pleased. I met some awesome people and I hope to meet more tomorrow.

If you're in the Spokane area, come by and check out Kuro Neko-con. I'm not sure what all's happening since I'm chained to my Artist Alley booth, but it's only $15 and supporting a growing con is great.

Compromised Passwords

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 14, 2012, 9:47 AM

Commissions are: OPEN

So apparently Yahoo had a file with 450,000 old emails and passwords leaked, and my email and password were on there. Not sure which password, because let's be honest - when was the last time anyone used Yahoo for anything?

(The problem is that it was "associated" content, so not necessarily Yahoo accounts, just Yahoo related before May 2010. Which could be anything. I've had this email address since middle school, so it REALLY could be anything.)

So just keep an eye out. Stuff's been compromised.

Are you sick of me talking about commissions yet? No? Good. :P

If you've been hesitant so far, I've got some discounts to get you in and to keep me busy.

First: Mass Effect Commissions in honor of the "Extended Endings" (which I haven't played yet but am not overly excited about). If you'd like art of your Shepard (provide screenshots for best results!) and/or Mass Effect characters I will give you half off normal commission price for this week.

EDIT SINCE NO ONE'S BITTEN

Second: Bulk Discount if I get at least 3 people to send me query emails by the time I wake up on Thursday next week (July 5th)  I will give everyone a discount of 50%. So bring your friends.

What. These deals. :iconheavyisastonished:

If these work for you guys, I'll keep doing this every once in a while.

Fruit Machine on the Horizon?

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 11, 2012, 10:06 PM

Commissions are: OPEN

I'm graduating from University this Saturday. GAH. I AM SCARED. YOU GUYS.

Other than looking for jobs this summer, I'd like to try to actually get Fruit Machine up and running as a webcomic. I've never done an actual, formal comic for more than a few pages so this will be a challenge.

Any of my followers have a webcomic or know some cool ones that I should look at? I read or have read quite a few in my day, but I'm always looking for more good comics. What is your favorite at the moment? Or favorite of ALL TIME?

On a totally different topic

Who plays/is going to play Guild Wars 2? R-H-MacLanahan and I have pre-ordered it and have been having a lot of fun in the Betas. I really like Mesmer and Necromancer, two classes I never played in the original. I'm also really looking forward to the Sylvari being available. So excited.

Commissions, Anyone?

Journal Entry: Wed May 16, 2012, 3:19 PM

Commissions are: OPEN

Hey guys! I do commissions!

I can do pretty much anything. Take a look at my gallery, and if you like what you see - you could get that! But with your character! It's great!

Right now my base price, per character for a full-color digital commission is $20. I've looked around, and that is pretty cheap. So get on that before I realize how foolish I am. :)

I try to create them as quickly as possible, but depending on difficulty it may take anywhere from a few weeks to a month. I try not to let them take much longer than that because, let's get real - no one likes waiting.

Payment info

I currently take payment through Paypal only. I don't take deviantArt points, because unfortunately they do not pay for food. Sorry.

If you are unable to create a Paypal account/have some excruciating circumstances but are really very serious about buying from me, let me know. We could possibly work something out.

Contact Me

Want a commission? Excellent.

Please EMAIL ME: rachelvbaggs(at)gmail.com
(we previously did this through notes - but I think email will be more efficient and secure for all.)
the following information:

  • Your name and/or your character(s) name
  • A physical description of your character, as well as a brief introduction to them personally. I'm going to be spending a little bit of time with them - let's get to know them.
  • Any references you might have.

The Process

While I love getting commissioned for art, if I feel that I cannot create what you're asking, I will tell you so. If I agree to take on your commission - excellent!

At this point, your job is to send me the payment for a price we've agreed upon. In most cases, I prefer payment up-front. It keeps both of us accountable.

Once I receive payment, I will begin sketching and creating your commissioned artwork. I will keep you up-to-date with progress, and will soon be sending you the final product.

You will receive:
A high-quality JPG or PNG of your artwork.
and if requested: A PSD file of your artwork.

Once you receive your art and I have received payment: that artwork is yours. You can do almost anything you want with it. The only thing you cannot do is sell it to others as your own (not that I think you would - you're not that kind of person, are you?)

I will then, unless requested not to by you, put a low-res and watermarked version of your image on my deviantArt and/or my online portfolio to show others what they could get if they follow in your footsteps.

Winners! And Hufflepuff.

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 15, 2012, 5:30 PM
Fanart contest winners have been decided and prizes handed out. If you participated and didn't win - you're still awesome and I love you! If you didn't get a chance to submit art - there will be another opportunity someday!

And if you haven't gotten frustrated by the two revamps faunnovel.com has gone through so far - get ready, because there's another one coming. Why? Well - because the site is functioning as a part of a school project (a very-important-needed-to-graduate-type school project) and I keep changing it due to feedback I'm getting from teachers and peers. So. I hope I'm not jerking anyone around too much, but there will be more changes coming.

And some of you probably already know this, but Pottermore is open to the public now. www.pottermore.com/ . If you're interested, by username is HeartBlade3035. If you want to add me as a friend, comment on this journal so I know you're not completely random. D:

Faun Updates

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 5, 2012, 10:14 PM
Hey guys - I wanted to remind you that submissions to the Faun Fanart Competition are due April 9th! faunnovel.com/faunartCompetiti… This weekend's your last chance! I'll stop accepting submissions to the contest on Monday night, so get your awesome art in before then.

I've been working on getting the new website up to snuff. You may have noticed a complete layout revamp and some new content, but I think I uploading what you'll really care about tonight :

A NEW CHAPTER.

SO GO READ IT faunnovel.com/read/page/5/0 and get completely mad at me for cliff-hangering you once again. But then you can use all that frustration as energy to draw some fanart? I don't know how these things work, obviously.

Anyway. Love you guys and appreciate your patience with me.
